Trust Your Heart

I had always been of the camp and theology that I could not trust my heart because it is “deceitful above all things” (Jer 17:9).  So, I went around giving the advice that you could not trust your heart.  But wait… Didn’t God promise to give us a new heart–to actually put His heart within us?  This is part of the new covenant.  Under this new covenant, as a new creation, I can trust my heart because it’s become one with His heart. So, how do we begin to trust His heart within us?  How do we know the difference?

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires Eph 4:22

For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. Mk 7:21-22
