Seeking Truth

As I started my study tonight in the eighth chapter of Hosea, I couldn’t shake a heaviness to study a different topic.  So, I decided to follow with my heart where I am led, and that is the topic of seeking truth.  Let me begin with a quote from the pastor at International House of Prayer:

True love is loyalty to God’s Word that stands up for truth in today’s man fearing church culture.-Mike Bickle

God’s Word of Truth

God’s word is truth.  His written word to us is truth, and truth embodied is Jesus.    If you are a Christian, then Jesus is your savior and Lord.  You believe that the word of God is truth and that every word that spilled from Jesus’ lips is truth.  Over and over Jesus said “If you love me keep my commandments”(Jn 14:15, Jn 14:21).  And more than Jesus being truth and our lord, we must understand that Jesus WAS God incarnate. The words from Jesus were the words of God.  When Jesus spoke, God was speaking.  When Jesus wept, God was weaping.  The emotions of God were caught up inside and expressed through this man. Look at these verses taken from the old testament:

You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. Deut 5: 9-10

Love Means Obedience

Sound familiar?  The bible is God’s written word, Jesus spoke God’s spoken word, and these words are our commands.  They are our manual.  Through our obedience of every God-breathed word, we are able to show our love to God.  Do you realize that we are called to be perfect just as Jesus was perfect?  We are to aim to walk just as Jesus did completely blameless, holy, and without sin.

You shall be perfect, just as your Father is perfect. (Mt. 5:48)

Walking perfect in obedience is relative in this age and absolute in the age-to-come. A sustained “reach” for 100% obedience is different than “attaining” to it in life. When we sin, we repent and renew our resolve to “reach” for full obedience with confidence that God enjoys us.  But we must continue to reach, powered by God’s grace, for 100% purity and holiness.  100% obedience means loving God with 100% of our heart, soul, and mind.   And I do believe this is possible while still on this earth.  We can love God with all of our being, and be completely obedient to Him.

Seeking the Truth

Good friend, take to heart what I’m telling you; collect my counsels and guard them with your life.
Tune your ears to the world of Wisdom;
set your heart on a life of Understanding
.
That’s right-if you make Insight your priority, and won’t take no for an answer,
Searching for it like a prospector panning for gold, like an adventurer on a treasure hunt,
Believe me, before you know it Fear-of-God will be yours; you’ll have come upon the Knowledge of God.

And here’s why: God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding.
He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well,a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere.
He keeps his eye on all who live honestly, and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.
(The Message)

Truth is at your fingertips.  At any moment, you can pick up the written word of God, almighty Jehovah, timeless Creator.  And you must know truth in order to be loyal to it.  I can’t tell you how many times I have been a supporter of someone or something, only to find out later that I was not being loyal to truth, and thereby I was offending my God.

For example, I love vampire movies, or did.  It didn’t tell me anywhere in the bible that this was wrong.  Even though, something in my spirit was telling me that it was not feeding my spirit.  Somehow Philippians 4:8 just wasn’t enough (whatever is true, whatever is worthy…).  I compared the vampires to any other fictional character or superhero, and dismissed the gentle pull of God’s spirit within me. Then one day, I had my eyes opened to the what my spirit had been crying out to me.  Movies about vampires and glorifying vampires was wrong.  These creatures were truly mocking Jesus as savior.  They were not only eternal, but carried life in their blood.  Their blood could provide healing, and once you joined with the vampire, you too would have eternal life.

The fact of the matter is that if you are seeking truth and are open to truth.  God will find a way to open the eyes of your heart so that you can obey Him fully.  This is what he wants, and if this is your desire, He will make a way, and that knowledge that you seek will be yours.
