For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. Psalm 149:4
God of heaven, creator of the universe, perfect, omniscient, omnipotent, this holy One, this One that simply calls Himself- I AM, the God that controls everything…. He delights in me. He takes great pleasure in me. When I sing with all my heart to Him, he experiences joy. When I sacrifice to obey, he lights up. He is a proud father who fills with joy in my triumphs. This is so amazing.
Even more amazing is the fact that God will beautify US, meaning He will take his beauty and place it on us. When people look at us, they will see the beauty of God shining through. As we approach him with meekness (with the realization that our strength comes from Him & without Him we are weak), He beautifies us with salvation. So, basically we approach Him with the realization that we need to be saved and He makes us beautiful through the process of saving us.
There are so many verses that speak of beauty in the Bible. Job 40:10 says Deck thyself now [with] majesty and excellency ; and array thyself with glory and beauty. Psalm 29:2 says, Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name ; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. In many verses, beauty is used interchangeably with holy and glory. To be beautiful is to be holy. This I understand, even by the world’s standards. Something beautiful is something set apart and set above every thing else. Holiness is something pure and without blemish. So, when God makes us HOLY, he makes us like Jesus. This is beautiful.
I couldn’t as quickly define GLORY; so I let Webster do that for me. Here it is:
1 a : praise, honor, or distinction extended by common consent : renown b : worshipful praise, honor, and thanksgiving <giving glory to God>
2 a : something that secures praise or renown <the glory of a brilliant career> b : a distinguished quality or asset
3 a (1) : great beauty and splendor : magnificence <the glory that was Greece and the grandeur that was Rome — E. A. Poe> (2) : something marked by beauty or resplendence <a perfect glory of a day> b : the splendor and beatific happiness of heaven; broadly : eternity
4 a : a state of great gratification or exaltation <when she’s acting she’s in her glory> b : a height of prosperity or achievement
5 : a ring or spot of light: as a : aureole b : a halo appearing around the shadow of an object
Think about each of these definitions–even this last one. A halo appearing around the shadow of an object. God is our glory, and as he beautifies us, his glory shines around us. We become encompassed by light. When we are in God, we are in our glory. In meekness, God saves us and glorifies us. US?! What an amazing honor! That God, creator of the galaxies, would swoop down to give us a taste of His perfect glory. That he would save us daily until we shine like His son. Praise Him.
